Frits Rouvoet has been knocking on the windows of Amsterdam's red light district for eighteen years. He isn't a customer. He runs a charity called Bright Fame, and he has become something like a father figure to a lot of the women working there.

He brings whatever is needed — a conversation, a lawyer, a way out. He's helped hundreds of women leave prostitution and build something else.

I wanted to understand the district through someone who has been present in it, week after week, for nearly two decades rather than for one night.
