Chiela Rosa grew up in the Dutch care system. No contact with her family, and by her account abuse going on around her the whole time she was in it. She told me that sex work was the only career she could see a route into, and she went into it at eighteen.
The first half of this interview is about the care system, and I think it is the more important half. If you want to understand how women end up in the Dutch sex industry, this is where it starts, years before anybody is old enough to sign anything.
The second half is about Kim Holland, one of the biggest adult production companies in Europe. Chiela alleges that she was violently abused on set, that she was plied with alcohol, and that she was manipulated by Rudolf Slakhorst and Elise van Vlaanderen. She is naming people, and she knew exactly what that was going to cost her when she did it.
She is not a fragile witness and she would not want to be treated as one. She has ten years in this industry across prostitution and pornography and she talks about it the way you would talk about any workplace, which I found more unsettling than if she had been upset.
