Melody Marks was on the LustFeed podcast this week. Melody is a blonde-hair cute American pornstar and one of just a few American models to find fame in Japanese porn. She told me about her times shooting in Japan and explained how it differs from porn in the West.
The Japanese porn industry is rather opaque. It’s very separate from the European and American porn industry where owners and productions tend to overlap.
It’s also wildly popular, it’s estimated that Japan produces at least twice as much porn as America despite its smaller population and economy.
To an outsider, Japanese adult video (JAV) is full of quirks and fetishes unique to Japan. For one, their porn is censored so you never see genitals in JAV. And there is a much wider variety of fetishes than there are in Western porn. In fact, many Western porn fetishes were created in Japan first, like Bukakke for example.
I always wanted to learn more about Japanese porn from someone that’s actually done it so I was lucky to meet Melody Marks and have her on the podcast.
Melody is an American pornstar and she explained how she was contacted by a Japanese production to make some porn videos in Japan.
She was really nervous at first and her agent did everything possible to scare her away from the opportunity. But in the end, everything worked out and she’s become one of the most popular JAV stars.
She is insanely popular! And it’s something she didn’t expect when she went over there but it’s something she appreciates a lot.
Melody Marks loves her Japanese fans. She says the fan culture around pornography is so different in Japan. Her Japanese fans are much more respectful and treat her like any other mainstream celebrity. Whereas she feels American fans see pornstars more as sex objects.
